Race 10:
Brands Hatch
The final
race of the Britcar season saw the debut of Sixth Sense ESP Racing's
latest car. At our home circuit of Brands Hatch here in Kent, we were
looking forward to completing the season in the competitive Lotus
Motorsport Elise and seeing how our new Honda NSX would do against
it's Class 2 competition.
With
surprisingly sunny November weather, we were pleased to host clients
and friends and welcome TV presenter Vicki Butler-Henderson to the
team!

With testing
going well, we were expecting the lightweight Lotus to do well in qualifying.
It was a little too close for comfort though, achieving pole by a mere 8
thousandths of a second! Meanwhile, the Honda NSX achieved 3rd place in
class. With no mechanical issues, the only changes were to make the car
more comfortable for our star driver!
A unique
feature of the weekend was the Live TV facility in the Honda, providing
spectators a view from the cockpit. Sadly for the Lotus driver James
Barclay, he had many witnesses as he span on the warm up
lap. We went from pole to 4 laps down as the car came in for some
emergency repairs...

Meanwhile, as
the Lotus desperately set after the rest of the field, the Honda was
taking advantage of the surrounding chaos. Despite taking a couple of
knocks itself, the new racer was soon up from 10th to 7th in the hands of
Vicki, and eventually
5th as other cars came in for fuel .
With the Honda
doing well, the Lotus was busy unlapping itself in order to salvage vital
points to secure 2nd in Class for the overall Britcar Production
Championship standings. However, carrying damage resulting in ill-handling
side effects, it would be hard work for the drivers.

Despite these
issues, the Lotus steadily made its way back up the order, running just
behind the upstart Honda! However, as the Lotus improved, it was the other
cars turn for troubles. Because of overheating, the gearbox was stuck in
third gear for the remainder of the race.
In the closing
stages of the race, the Lotus overtook the Honda leaving the cars 6th and
7th respectively. This cemented the 2nd in Class position for the season
whilst the Honda came away with 2nd in Class itself, setting fastest lap
on the way!

Later in the
day, the Honda was entered into the Britcar GT night race. Despite still
using just the one gear and starting from the pits, the car performed
admirably, beating Porsches and Aston Martins!
With such a
exciting debut, the Honda is to be featured in many automotive
publications over the Winter.
The results
bode well for 2010 and without much further development, it will be right
on the pace for overall honours.
We'd like to
thank everyone for their support over the season. |
