Welcome to the latest edition of 'On the Pulse' the
e-newsletter brought to you by Sixth Sense ESP. 'On the Pulse'
aims to provide you with genuinely useful information about online
security, promotion and the development of engaging websites with
professional advice from internationally respected sources.
In February we ran a story regarding Website Accessibility, the
Disability Discrimination Act and how it could affect your
websites. Since then we have seen a massive increase in the number
of Accessibility Reports requested via our website. The good news
is that people are starting to sit up and take notice but the bad
news is that many still need help in complying with these laws.
Our article gives some hints about bringing your website up to
standard and where to find help.
As we all know, the Internet is big business but it seems only big
businesses are really taking advantage - a staggering 40% of
business don't have any kind of online presence. Our article looks
at how the gulf between small and large businesses is widening and
asks why some companies don't feel investment in the Internet is
worthwhile.
How secure is your business? Are your employees leaving you
exposed to hackers and online fraud? Our article examines ways in
which you can protect yourself by tightening up your security.
Finally we look at how Microsoft and other major players are
trying to keep up with developments made by Google.
We’ll keep doing our best to make sure we send you genuinely
useful snippets and if you have any comments or suggestions for a
future article, please drop us a line. And don't forget to tell
your friends!

Firms need multiple passwords |
| |
Businesses should ensure that every
employee with access to a PC uses "unique and multiple"
passwords to protect data at work from hackers. Sophos, which
provides antivirus and anti-spyware software, found that 41%
of business PC users had the same password for everything they
accessed online.
Additionally, more than 70% of business
owners admitted that their firms used "weak" passwords that
are easy to crack...

Microsoft targets Google |
| |
Bill Gates is worried about Google and
has been for a while. For years, observers have watched
Microsoft, imagining the frantic pacing behind closed office
doors in the executive suites, waiting for something major to
happen.
There have been articles about the
rearrangement of furniture around the board table and the
flinging of furniture across an office but, for the most part,
very little of substance has been written about Microsoft's
plans to deal with Google...
