The unopened e-mail that cost £3m
Kent County
Council officials prepared to make a £3m deposit into an Icelandic
bank, an e-mail from the council's financial consultants with warnings
which should have prevented the transaction, languished unopened in an
official's inbox.
The money was deposited on 1 October 2008 days
before the Icelandic banking system went into meltdown.

Online shopping ahead 13% on 2008
Online
shopping is bucking the downward trend on the UK High Street, as
latest figures show the "e-tail" sector made a 13% annual sales
increase in February.
But,
despite the annual increase, February online shopping fell 11%
from the month before, the online retail research group IMRG
Capgemini says.

Warning over Internet Explorer report
US-CERT
(the US Government's cyber security arm) is warning users of Microsoft
Internet Explorer 7 about a Trend Micro report, claiming that cyber
criminals are attacking Internet Explorer 7 through a vulnerability
disclosed and patched by Microsoft two weeks ago, notes an Information
Week report.
According
to Trend Micro, the attack begins with a malicious Microsoft Word
(.doc) file distributed through spam.

Small firms missing out on Internet shopping boom
Six out of
ten small firms are missing out on sales over the Internet because
they do not have an e-commerce facility.
The Voice
of Small Business report by BT Tradespace has revealed that just 13%
of small businesses consider a website as integral to their marketing
strategy, while 67% say they do not believe they can attract customers
on the Internet.
