Microsoft have announced a patch for a bug in Windows… that’s the 17 year old Windows version 3.1! There’s nothing like a prompt response and that’s nothing like a prompt response.

Two legal issues are covered this month with File Sharing and Dell under the microscope. We’ve seen the release of the iPad and now a rival has been launched and finally, on the subject of rivals, Facebook are looking to release their own Webmail service going up against Google and Hotmail.

Microsoft to patch 17-year-old computer bug

A 17-year-old bug in Windows will eventually be patched by Microsoft in the latest security update.

The February update for Windows will close this infectious bug that dates from the time of the DOS operating system. First appearing in Windows NT 3.1, the vulnerability has been carried over into almost every version of Windows since.

Plans to cut off file-sharers 'could breach human rights'

The Government's idea to cut-off illegal file-sharers could breach internet user's human rights, according to committee of MPs and Lords.

The Joint Committee on Human Rights has been examining the terms of the Digital Economy Bill that is currently passing through Parliament. It has concerns over the Government's plans to impose "technical measures" on illegal file-sharers.

Dell faces court date over faulty laptops

Dell has been ordered back to court to face charges that it knowingly sold defective laptops.

A panel of the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco reversed a district court's dismissal of the case against Dell. That dismissal followed the plaintiffs' refusal to comply with a district court order that their claims be arbitrated.

X2's iTablet rival for Apple's iPad


X2's iTablet rival for Apple's iPad

Apple have decided on using the phrase 'iPad' for it's new product but 'iTablet' was also on the cards. Now a UK computer supplier called 'X2' are claiming the 'iTablet' name for its own.

The iTablet range features at least two models: one with a 12in, 1024 x 768 display and the other with a 10.2in screen of the same resolution. Both are based on Intel chips with "up to 1.6GHz with 2GB of cache".

Facebook creating webmail service?


Facebook creating webmail service?

Facebook is reportedly working on its own webmail service to rival the likes of Gmail and Hotmail.

To Facebook it's called Project Titan and would see users rid of the messaging service that's currently in play. It will be replaced by a fully featured webmail service instead.
