Unreliable websites lose £84million

 

Although the period leading up to Christmas 2005 was a great success overall for online retailers, some stores' websites were unable to handle the pressure.

A survey by Verdict Consulting has shown that retailers lost around £84 million in sales because of unreliable websites. Unless action is taken, the prospects for lost sales in 2006 are even worse, the researchers suggest.

Fresh research from the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) has revealed that the UK's expenditure on Internet advertising was more than 73% higher in 2005 than in 2004. Spending on e-advertising has surpassed the amount invested in promotion in business and consumer magazines for the first time.

Trojan virus warning

 

The 'Rootkit.hearse' Trojan has been tracked by Sana Security and other researchers, and is designed to avoid detection by anti-virus scanning technologies on users’ machines.

Sana says Rootkit.hearse is being downloaded by users at the same time as they download other types of malware from malicious websites.

As the 'Big rise in online advertising' story tells us, people are finding that marketing their business online is more effective than established offline methods.

The paid advertising arena is dominated by Google Adwords. Adwords allows you to place an advert alongside normal search results. You can pick any keyword phrase you like but in return you have to bid per click against other advertisers. You can cap the amount you spend per day and there is no contractual agreement.
